Here is the fact about makeup
You can’t control your hormones, it has its role to play, and you can’t stop the oily and shining on your face except you opt for surgery which is not advisable.
Yes, I know your hormones have a lot of roles to play when it comes to having an oily face yet, it’s all depending on the makeup products you use and the tricks you put in doing your makeup.
And this is what most people do not understand or don’t know how to go about it.
If you don’t get this aspect right, trust me, you are in a never-ending battle to know how to do a long lasting makeup in Nigeria especially the sunny days.
What can I use for long lasting makeup?
It is very vital to buy the right makeup products, ranging from your foundation, face primer, concealer, setting powder, and so on.
If you have oily skin, it will be better to look for a foundation that has a matte finish as it won’t make your skin look tacky and greasy.
Finding the right products when it comes to makeup for oily skin can be challenging and frustrating and that is the reason why I took it upon myself to go out there and make a thorough inquiry on makeup products that will help curb that shine on the face.
Here is what I found on how to do a lasting makeup
I and some friends carried out some research on these makeup products to see how effective they are when it comes down to controlling shine on the face (I don’t want to assume they work as the manufacturers and people that have used these products before claim they work).
And to be sincere, they worked great. At least, the lady with very shiny and sweaty skin took the challenge and applied the makeup on her face, and guess what, it lasted 7 hours before it started getting rough.
If you don’t know the way around curbing shine on the face and if you don’t know the right makeup products to use, it will make makeup look like a thug of war and that is the major reason most women don’t like to apply makeup, especially sunny days in Nigeria.
Note that all makeup products contain oil. Ranging from foundation, concealer, lipsticks, and powder.
Whether expensive or cheap, when it comes to oil in the product the price does not matter.
The only difference is that the amount of oil in brands varies, some are much and some are little.
Are you ready to learn how to do a long lasting makeup in Nigeria that won’t look rough quickly and wear over your face? Now let’s see how it works.
How can I get my makeup to stay on all day?
You can get your makeup stay all day in Nigeria if you follow the tips below and trust me, these are tips that are not hard to do.
1: Moisturize your skin
2: Use setting spray after moisturizing your skin/face
3: Apply face primer for oily skin
4: Apply an oil absorbent foundation
5: Make use of setting powder
6: Set it with setting spray.
Now, let us see how it’s being done.
Step1. Cleanse and moisturize your skin
Yes, you want to make sure that your skin is clean, fresh, and ready for the main deal.
Wash your skin gently with skincare products free from oil.
Make sure your skin is well hydrated to prevent sebum glands from over secreting.
You should have it in the back of your mind that; having oily skin does not mean that you should not moisturize your skin and that is the reason I will suggest you go for an oil-free gel moisturizer.
If you are older, you should opt for a moisturizer with anti-wrinkles properties in it.
By doing this, you will remove the remaining or leftover makeup and get your face ready for fresh makeup.
You can give either of these products a try if you have a shiny skin
- Garnier Micellar water facial cleanser for oily skin 400ML
- Neutrogena oil-free Acne facial wash for oily skin
- Facial cleanser oily skin 400ML
I will advise you to start a skin routine, wash your skin, exfoliate your skin and moisturize your skin. Doing this will help you to fight against oily skin. wait for your skin to absorb the moisturizer before you move on to the next step.
Step2. Setting spray
You might be wondering that setting spray should come last and why is it coming first? Yes, I know that traditionally, setting spray should come ‘last.
For the sake of making sure that your skin does not look greasy and shiny, let us spray a little in our face at the beginning and the end. Experts have tested and believed that a little spritz of setting spray before the base on oilier skin will let the foundation stay in place for a long time.
I will suggest that you use Milani make it last setting spray.
Some people might even be wondering what setting spray is?*winks*.
Well, setting spray creates a bit of a layer of the skin and helps to stop oil coming through and penetrating the makeup which can make your face look shiny. So, just spray it directly into your face and you are very close to mastering how to make up in Nigeria.
Step3. Face primer for oily skin
Do you know that makeup lasts longer on oily skin if primers are used in the process? Now you have exfoliated and used a setting spray, what next? Face primer should come first before the foundation.
Be aware that a good primer will help to protect your pores from clogging and give you a perfect tone.
Some primers come with high silicone gel content, most of them don’t effectively absorb oil. I will suggest that you should avoid them.
You can try Milani prime shield + Pore minimizing face primer as it is non-greasy, lightweight it prolongs makeup wear time, and gives a perfect completion.
Then, apply a little to your face and use your fingers or foundation brush to spread it throughout your face starting from the center of the face to the sides.
You should apply a little so that your makeup will not look tacky, heavy, and greasy.
Step4. Oil-free foundation
When you use an oil-free foundation, it will help makeup last longer on your face.
I will advise you to go for an original foundation that is specifically made for oily skin like Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer.
1. Provide full coverage
3. Make skin perfect and even out the skin
4. Has a pump for easy application
Invest in a quality foundation if you don’t want to be retouched every time.
I will also suggest;
- Teint idole ultra 24h foundation
+ perfect 2-in-1 foundation + concealer.
So, apply the foundation with a brush until you have gotten an even tone, and make sure you dab gently for it not to look rough and sloppy.
You can apply an extra layer to areas where you have scars or acne for full coverage and even skin tone.
Step5. Setting powder (for oily skin)
You are very close to becoming a professional at doing long-lasting makeup.
Apply your setting powder on your foundation to give you a fresh matte finish.
You want to be sure of the longevity of your foundation; I will suggest that you apply an oil absorbent setting powder like Milani shine proof powder.
Benefits of Milani shine proof powder
1. Very soft lightweight formula
2. Can control shine for all-day
3. Made with properties that can help to tighten pores and control shine
4. Formulated with Bamboo powder that absorbs oil and keeps the skin fresh all day long
5. Comes with mirror and sponge
6. Can be worn without foundation and still have a flawless look
Experts believe that using a setting powder on oilier skin will make the makeup look greasy and tacky as soon as the powder mixes with the natural oil from the skin after 2 or 3 hours of wear.
In that case, I will suggest that you opt for cream or liquid consistencies as they work better and make makeup last longer on oily skin than the powdery counterpart.
At this junction, what matters is to know your skin (oily or oilier) type and what could work for your skin.
What you have to do is to gently brush your setting powder into the skin with a fluffy powder brush.
Never intend to use your fingertips to apply it as it will dent your makeup and give you an uneven tone. You can use a sponge or brush to apply it to your skin.
Your setting powder will give or set your foundation for long wear and it will certainly help to get rid of the oil that may dent your makeup for the day. Also avoid powder formula that has mica in it, because they give oily skin a more shiny look.
Step7. Setting spray
I can’t believe you made it this far, congratulations as you are almost ready to do a long lasting makeup yourself. Let us get done with setting powder.
This stage is important as said earlier, if you want your makeup to last for at least 6 hours; you will need a setting spray.
It is true to say that if settings spray is applied to your face after makeup your face will be free from anything that may way want to dent your makeup.
Just spray it on your face and it will dry down in not much time and give you the kind of look you can ever imagine. I will always advise that setting spray should be used before and after the whole makeup process to give a radiant and lasting power to your makeup.
You can try these setting sprays if you have an oily skin
- NYX matte finish mini mat
- Urban decay slick setting spray
Hurray, you have just learned how to do a long lasting makeup in Nigeria.
How can I get long lasting flawless makeup all day?
After putting a lot of effort and time into putting up a beautiful facial makeup, what you expect of it is to remain flawless and last longer probably for the whole day.
Just keep the basics simple and try not to be worried every time about your face getting oily or shine and you will be surprised how long your makeup will last.
How long should you keep your makeup for?
Makeup can last for 11-16 hours when face primer is used in the process and depending on how oily your skin is and after that period, makeup will start to get rough and fade.
Makeup has its side effects on the skin in the long run, but I will advise that you remove every makeup before going to bed every night so that your pores will have breathing space and as not to clog your pores.
Make sure to use a mild and gentle moisturizer to remove makeup on the face every night.
